The maritime economy in Germany is a high-tech oriented economic sector with great know-how, enormous innovative strength and a long tradition. It plays a central role in Germany’s economic location with its most important sectors – shipbuilding and supply industries, ship travel and harbours, ocean engineering, inland navigation and fisheries. However, Maritime Industries also includes offshore wind farms, crude oil and natural gas drilling on platforms and logistics around the ports and downstream. Despite high competition the maritime industry as a whole in Germany has achieved an outstanding position, according to EU Maritime Ambassador Kurt Bodewig.
