The maritime community has faced enormous challenges since the last SMM. 2009 saw the European shipbuilding industry facing a global financial and economic crisis. Despite enormous pressure, ensuring that the industry remains competitive after the passing storm, there are now opportunities which cannot go by unnoticed. The marine equipment industry can call itself the global champion of greener, safer and innovative technology leadership. Promoting innovative products to reduce emissions of shipping will lead to prosperity. The greening of shipping is a key theme at this year’s SMM. The showcasing of innovative and eco-friendly products will highlight the advancement of marine equipment suppliers with regard to environmental protection with-in the maritime community. EMEC will use the opportunity of SMM to launch its 3rd edition of Green Ship Technology. Green marine equipment can meet current regulatory targets and go even further to reduce
the impact of shipping on the environment. It is necessary in order to deal with future challenges and fulfil the needs of today’s society.
